Digital Camera Quick Start : Digital SLR

Learning to use your digital SLR camera is not as difficult as you might think when you take this hands-on class. Learn to recognize and access the core features of your DSLR : ISO, shutter speed, aperture, image quality, manual, automatic focus, and much more. We will uncover the exposure modes of your camera, learn about what’s hidden inside the layers of menus, from basic features like time and date to intermediate features like setting white balance and controlling flash power. Bring your manual and plenty of questions to this highly interactive class. Keith and Teddi Maull own and are the primary photographers for their wedding and portrait photography

Prints, Pixels and Fun Possibilities

Do you struggle to understand some of the digital photography jargon? Are you having trouble finding and using tools to store, tag and backup your images? Is the vastness of the web so intimidating that you don’t know where to begin learning, sharing and printing your photos? This class is for people who have working knowledge of and familiarity with their camera but want to get a little more out of their photos. We will review pixels, print sizes and compression as well as introduce the basic concepts behind effective digital workflow and what it can do to improve your photo longevity, organization and creativity. We explore high quality websites for finding information about your software and camera, in addition to getting that necessary inspiration to take great photos. We will also discover a multitude of high quality products and fun things to do with your images, whether you’re printing posters, postage or photo books.

New for 2010! Digital Photography Problem Solving Workshop

Do you know how to use your camera but still end up with bad images (blurry, too bright, too dark) in difficult situations? This class is designed to help you quickly take control of those problem photos and push your skill to the next level. We will review some popular camera features (ISO, Image Stabilization, White Balance, Aperture and Shutter Priority, etc.) and discuss how to use these tools to improve your photos. We will review the what, uncover the why and suggest the hows of improving problem photos. Bring your trouble photos either in print or on your laptop to this interactive workshop. To get the most from this workshop, you should have working knowledge of and familiarity with your camera or have taken one of the Quick Start classes at CFU.

Introduction to Photoshop Elements 7 and The Digital Workflow

This course will cover the basic digital photography workflow using Photoshop Elements 6. We will start with how to acquire and import images into Elements then move to mastering the core functions of the Elements Organizer by learning to tag, sort, find and group images into albums. Participants will also learn the importance of archiving images, and how to perform archiving tasks as well as how to use the automatic and quick fix editing features in order to create basic image enhancements. Finally, we’ll learn how Elements provides the capabilities to share and create cool things with your photos. This will be a hands-on class with the objective of becoming familiar with the core features.

Advanced PhotoShop Elements for Digital Photography

Now that you have a basic level of comfort with the core features of Photoshop Elements 7, it is time to take it to the next level. In this class, we will start with the features of the Editor : organizer integration, the basic tools palette and the bin. We’ll explore how to apply the features in the tools palette to make your photos into masterpieces. You’ll learn the difference between “levels”, “layers” and “lassos” as we methodically build up the necessary skills to make real-world photo enhancements. The skills-oriented class will cover color correction, color enhancement - including black and white conversions, sharpening, retouching and special features such as Photomerge.
